When the NHL issued its edict against hits to the head this week, it put itself on record against blows "that are deliberate, avoidable and illegal."

The key here will be interpretation. Don't expect to see this situation come to an easy, painless solution. Avoidable is one thing; illegal is what the NHL says it is.
