Kansas State Forward Creates Makeshift Diaper

Friday, November 30, 2007

How bad did K-State's Bill Walker have to relieve himself during last night's game? This bad:
"With just seconds left in regulation and K-State lined up to inbound the ball and run a last second play, Bill Walker was overcome with an urge too strong to control. He stepped to the sideline and relieved himself with several towels."
There is photographic evidence of Walker in the act, but perhaps even better is this video (watch the bottom left corner):

I know a buddy who once did something similar to this in Providence, R.I. Except instead of going into towels, he just used the side of an office building. And instead of going back into the game, he went into the back of a police car. Similar events though.

Also, what the hell is the analyst attempting to draw on the screen in that video? It's almost NSFW.

What's on Tap: ESPN Will Attempt to Honor 21 Again

Friday, November 30, 2007
By Brian Powell

Each Monday morning, Brian posts a recap of the weekend's broadcasts, along with a "MNF" recap on Tuesday mornings as well as a weekend preview every Friday.

What to Watch For While You're Watching:

-- The NFL will most surely focus most of their attention on the untimely passing of Sean Taylor and rightfully so. ESPN will have a feature on the Redskins' safety, and hopefully this time they get it right. I'm sure FOX and CBS will follow suit. ESPN will also feature a bevy of other "entertaining" features on their Sunday Countdown program. Some to look for include Kenny Mayne and his flute, a feature on Jags' QB David Garrard, and 10-year old Jason Krause wondering why people kick to Devin Hester, while we wonder why a 10-year-old is on our television.

-- Looking further ahead, you’re not gonna want to miss Monday Night Countdown as the Patriots offensive line will take ESPN on a shopping trip. I can’t make this stuff up. No word on whether or not they’ll be buying a new designer cowboy hat for Tom Brady.

-- College football heads into Championship Week with a lot on the line. The most important being a shot at the National Championship for West Virginia and Missouri. You'll have to choose between the two as they start at approximately the same time. Mike Patrick and Todd Blackledge will be calling the Pitt-WVU game at 7:45 on ESPN and Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit, and Chris Spielman will be on the Mizzou-Oklahoma game at 8:00 on ABC. Spielman is a new edition to that crew and will hopefully not throw off what's been an above average pairing all year long.

-- Army and Navy also renew their 100+ year rivalry on CBS at noon on Saturday. The game will be called by a pair of NFL guys with Ian Eagle and NFL Today’s Boomer Esiason as the analyst. The duo has called the game in previous years and usually does a pretty stellar job.

-- Finally, ESPN has a pair of NBA games airing tonight. The Boston Celtics, fresh off their absolute destruction of the Knicks, travel to Miami in the early game with Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy on the call. The late game features the Lakers in Utah taking on the Jazz with Dan Shulman and Hubie Brown in the booth.

Tripping Over Yourself Is Now Pass Interference

Friday, November 30, 2007
By Chris Mottram

Alright, you be the judge: Worst pass interference call of the season, or worst pass interference call ever? (my apologies for the poor video quality):

Not that it came at an important time in the game or anything. It was only 27-24, in the fourth quarter. Dallas scored a touchdown three plays later.

Torii Hunter Likes Money, Monkeys

Friday, November 30, 2007
By Chris Mottram

Hunter signed a five-year deal worth $90 million – which was made official at a Del Taco fast food joint in SoCal – last week. Yesterday, he was officially introduced by the team, and basically admitted the Angels overpaid for his services.
"I would have signed for less," said Hunter, who had five-year offers, ranging from $70 million to $75 million, from the White Sox, Rangers and Royals, and the day before the Angels offer dined with Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks. What if the Angels offered less than those other teams? "I still would have taken it!"
$90 million, $70 million; let’s not squabble over nickels and dimes, boys.

Aside from making the franchise feel stupid, Torii also expressed his new found love for the rally monkey, which is arguable the most annoying thing in the history of sports (watch video), saying, "This rally monkey has been in my nightmares, and I’m just happy to be a part of this organization and being a part of the monkey. And the monkey is gonna be my friend."

[Insert juvenile monkey-related joke here]

Favre's Streak Will Continue, But Should it?

Friday, November 30, 2007
By Chris Mottram

At my old place of employment, my colleagues referred to me as "Doctor," because I spent an abnormal amount of time in college (sometimes, I like to party). I assure you, however, I'm not medically certified on any level.

Having said that, isn't separating your shoulder kind of a big deal? That's the injury Favre suffered last night, yet his coach said there is a "great chance he will be ready against Oakland."

Is it really worth rushing Favre back to play the 3-8 Raiders? Especially when you consider how well Aaron Rodgers played (18-26, 201, TD), you'd have to think Favre might want to take the day off. Plus, they might want him for the playoffs.

Then again, it's not like the injury hurt at all: "If anyone has hit their funny bone, imagine hitting it 10 times as hard with a hammer," Favre said. "That's what it feels like." Again, not a doctor, but that sounds like it would be bad for your physical health.

Of course, following my basic logic would end his consecutive games streak, which is currently at 253.
